Winterizing Demonstation Yard Hives - Fall 2009

- Before wrapping.  Hives all had a hive top feeder on them.  Remove feeders

- Place a newspaper over inner cover hole

- Place empty brood box on top, fill with insulation. Be sure to tuck in edges and corners and keep center puffy

- Entrance reducer in place

- We taped holes and cracks caused by vandals.  Plug all holes except hole in upper box

- Check for hole in upper box.  Drill if necessary.  Make sure hole is clear and bees can exit

- Replace covers

- Wrap tar paper around hive.  Secure loosely in back

- Mark location of hole with staples before you staple the paper on top so you can see the proper position

- Cover roof, secure with staples

- Put rocks on top

Our bee yard all wrapped for winter:
